Yup, the "Masochism Monday" experiment is in full swing, get your submission in as soon as possible. While i won't rule out doing this again, it won't be anytime in the next month or so. See for information. http://onyxhawke.livejournal.com/7262.html

Sir, I hope you don’t mind that I have flisted you for the duration of the experiment. I am grinding away at a submission, but the manuscript turns out to need a number of fiddly little corrections.

Racing against an almost immediate deadline with a bad head and chest cold is not something I recommend. If I don’t take any medication for it, my eyes tear up and I can’t read for long, and if I do, I get groggy. Nevertheless, Deus volent, I should have something to send you before you shut down the MM address.

Oh, don't go killing yourself trying to finish it off. Quality trumps. If you miss the deadline, the regular submission box has a moderately low wait time for full MS turn around and i almost always provide _some_ feedback.

That’s very kind of you — though sending things to an email address labelled ‘acts of vanity’ strikes me as an unchancy thing to do. The gods know when we’re asking for it. *wry grin*

Since I have you on the phone, so to speak —

I’ve read a post of yours in which you said you have strong dislikes in fantasy. Is there any accessible place where you’ve said more on that subject?

Likes, dislikes blah!

No, there's not really a post anywhere on the net. The some of the things i dislike are; inordinate amounts of navel gazing, Emo Child levels of angst, pointless "let's use sex scenes to pad this 40k word novella to a 110k novel" that do nothing for the plot (note that i'm okay with sex, and even 'alternative pairings and groupings', places where one can go several pages and not advance the plot _or_ not enhance the understanding of the Characters.

All that said; I happen to dislike the works of some of the BIG names in Fantasy, so even if _I_ am not excited enough by your work to take it, someone else may be.

Re: Likes, dislikes blah!

Oh, good! It sounds to me as if you dislike the wilful propagation of crud, which is admirable; as opposed to merely having shibboleths, which however is not necessarily a bad thing, except for those who inadvertently tread on your corns.

Though now you’ve made me curious about which BIG names’ work you dislike. I myself am not exactly taken with the general run of these at present. D.H. Lawrence once called Balzac a giant dwarf; I can think of several living authors whom that label would fit rather neatly.

On the names, i plead the fifth, and also remind you of the fourth and several clauses in the first. :-) And i'll defend each of them with the second.

the email address

Heh, i picked it specifically to give people one last reminder of my sense of humor AND to cut down on the number of 'junk' submissions by people who came to the website and _almost_ read the submission guidelines. Also, it cuts down on spam. :-)
