It really is weird to read something by someone you know. I've got a submission by someone I've known for years in front of me, even though I'm only two paragraphs into it, i can still hear the writers voice in my head. It's not really an overt detractor since i do like this person, but it does make it harder to concentrate.

I hear people's voices reading their stuff too. (I pretend it's an audiobook.)

I always just substitute a proper British narrator. That seems to work well for sci-fi and fantasy.

When I read a book, it's a very different experience than hearing an audiobook.

When reading, my mind creates a movie with different voices for different parts. I experience the book completely differently through the two mediums.
