QOTD: and Return of the son of the neighbor of the orthadontists grandnephew of the Open Thread

So I mentioned a few posts back that there were some characters I'd love to meet. So who are your favorite and or least favorite characters? Anyone you just love to hate? Anyone who tempts you to change your legal name to theirs?

And of course, any questions you want to ask?

Favorite - Gerald Tarrant from C.S. Friedman's 'Coldfire Trilogy'.

The one I love to hate? Ariane Emory from CJ Cherryh's 'Cyteen'

I'd love to meet Miles Vorkosigan, but I'm not sure I'd survive the experience. ;)

Fourthing it. I wouldn't mind meeting Ramses Emerson, too. But not both on the same day, 'kay?

Oh good point. Even if he's mellowing out, there's still _The League of Would Be Wives_, the armsmen, his parents, children, the odd surviving enemy, and of course his wife, brother and cousins littering you path....

He's not a safe person to know. But interesting as heck. ;)

I'd love to meet Honor Harrington and Nimitz, and I suppose this marks me as a total fangirl, but I think it would rock to have a treecat of my own.

One of my favorite "love to hate" characters doesn't come from written sf but rather from Babylon 5: Alfred Bester.

oh my yes. Speaking as a Mundane, of course.

I'd love to have met and had a child with Master Robinton. I'd like to have had a few drinks with Mike Callahan. And I'd enjoy having the chance to go through Bene Gesserit training, assuming they'd've taken me which I doubt.

I think Benedict of Amber would be interesting to meet from a safe distance. Same with Elric of Melnibone (only for him the safe distance would be MUCH farther away).

Hannibal Lecter would be one of my "favorite" evil people, and one of the most real fictional villians IMO.

And I'm most-likely in the minority here but I hate Honor Harrington. The plotlines are too neatly fitted and the character comes across as flat. With different interests, the exact same character would convert very easily to a megalomaniacal religious fanatic determined to take care of everyone "for their own good."

You may be a minority, but you're certainly not alone. I completely agree regarding HH.

If Weber weren't a Major Pro, I'd write her off as a transgendered Mary Sue. Actually, I'm not sure that getting seven-figure advances disqualifies him from this.

Lymond - Dorothy Dunnett

anyone from Fionovar - Guy Gavriel Kay

I have so many faves it's not funny, but I guess at the moment I'd have to name Pyanfar Chanur.

Love to hate? King Gorice, from The Worm Ouroboros; and Lord Protector Norman Arminger.

I'd like to have a drink with a) Gandalf b) Maralyce from Jennifer Fallon's Tide Lords series, and c) from tv land - the crew from Red Dwarf, especially Holly when he's kicking bottom.

The character I most like to hate, Belagren, from Jennifer Fallon's Second Sons series. I know she's not who most people think of as the real villian of the series, but her motives were far more evil.

Favorite character

Hands down I'd pick John Steakley's Felix, from "Armor".
