Yes, this is really late.

Day three was like today a day where there were no scheduled panels for me. It was also a busy, busy day. The only important meetings were with the Chairs of Conjecture and Lunacon. We talked about a couple idea's and people who wanted to be there.

Later i had lunch with CanaryNoir, and two of her fabulous friends. We talked about some of what I'm doing to ge her book sold, some about her WIP' and chatted about the con.

Later, there were parties. The Pyr party rivaled the Tor party for bodies and easily doubled it for density of crowd. There was also an interesting specialty mixed drink. I can't tell you what it tastes like or what was in it because mine kept evaporating. Luckily I got a spiffy glass with the Pyr logo so all was not lost. The tor party was well attended as always, and hip deep in heavy weights.

After the party tour a group of us went to Leela's over on 15th street. Leela's is a twenty four hour diner with a bar built in. Sadly there was a rather obnoxious git there causing the staff problems. All he could prattle on about was how he was working the DNC and 'we' will never win with attitudes like that. Fortunately the company i was way better. Jude of Borderland Books, Jetse, Jeremy Lassen, Lou Anders and half a dozen others.

Eventually I got back to my room just about three am, with a panel less than seven hours later...
Yesterday was fun, and all the set work was done by two so I relaxed a bit more the rest of the day. The morning panel The Agent Behind the Curtain was a bit more general than I expected, but probably what the audience needed. Joshua Bilmes did a fantastic job moderating, Eleanor Wood contributed in that cool reasoned way she does. Lucienne Diver was her usual strong business woman self. And Kristen Nelson was the only one i hadn't met before, she was sharp and well focused.

Next I had the signing turned pitch session. This was in the dealers room, thankfully far enough away from most things that I could here the people who were talking to me. The dealers room is large and I spent half an hour talking to Howard and Sandra Taylor. I ran into Jeremy from Night Shade and talked to him for a while.

So aside from Schlock Mercenary I also noticed the folks from Girl Genius, and a demo station for the various versions of Soul Caliber 4, featuring Star Wars characters like Darth Vader and Yoda.

Today the only real plans are a brunch with the conchair of Lunacon to beat him into persuade him of a few things I'd like and give him a bit more background on some of the folks who I know want to be there or are going to be there.

After that is a late lunch with [personal profile] canarynoir and then visiting folks at one or two of the parties.

For those keeping track; I talked to Steve Stirling, Jay Lake, Peter Heck, Ken Shoels, and a half dozen others i should remember but don't.

Depending on mood and energy, i may send out a few more submissions later this afternoon.
Yesterday's  Shmoozing 101 panel was fun. Unfortunately Ginjer Buchanan wasn't with us, but thanks to Mary Robinette Kowal and John Sclazi, it was a fantastic panel. I like panels that don't suffer from dead air and panic as people realize they will have to actually talk instead of just sit at the table and hope someone will buy somethign in the dealers room or art room with their name on it.

Schmoozing 101 was a lot of fun, I'd never met John Scalzi before even if I've commented on his blog a couple times, Mary i met and got a ride to the con hotel from the overflow at WFC Austin and have run into a couple times since. The two of them did a lot of the work and I chimed in to the person who said "don't be stupid." I don't think i actually said it in those words, but I'm sure the sentiment got across.

I did get to meet a couple of my readers, and someone who submitted something to me during the Winter Workout and was willing to speak to me anyway.

For those who hadn't noticed, there is a full page ad for Lunacon in the program book right next to the one featuring Lois Bujolds new series. There is also a full page color ad that features both Slow Train and Pyramid Power, both of which are available for pre-order.

Today i have two events.

one is an eleven thirty panel The Agent Behind the Curtain in room 506, and the other is immediately after at 1pm a signing in Hall D. After that i can go back to being invisible and maybe go to lunch. Please stop by the signing even if just to say hello, feel free to pitch your book to me.

For those who know them: Silverdrake, and Mike, The Hoyt Collective Family, Kate Paulk, Greg D, Cynthia Gonslaves, and a few others are here.

Oh yeah, for anyone at the con who hasn't discovered it there's free Wi-Fi on the 16h street mall, its the "Downtown DenverWiFI" network, I'm able to sign into it sitting in the lobby of the Sheraton Plaza.

Cheers,

After a solid working up period in which proprietor Darwin Garrison kicked around numerous models and ideas for an ezine, we're finally free to explore Darwin's Evolutions. Inside is an article by Kate Paulk on writing and how not turn your novel into a transcript of your last RPG campaign. There are several non fiction articles, three pieces of feature fiction and an animated end piece written by Morgen Kirby and drawn and laid out by Karl A. Nordman and Jen Miller

I booked my flight today, I'll be there for the whole con, and most of the next day. I also managed to get my bio sent in so I may actually have to do some work while there.

How many others are going?

Well, for another year of excellent con is over. Tear down is done, and the Dead Dog has been doused with booze and food. I had two panels this morning, the second half of Allen Wold's writing workshop which was fun, but i think we'd scared off a couple of the participants. After that was the "How to Critique and be Critiqued" panel. I got to moderate (silly con com) and the poor panelists who had me inflicted on them were Valerie Griswold-Ford, Charles
Gannon, and the amazing Catherine Asaro. This panel to me was very interesting, and we could have gone on for another hour or two easily, between war stories of crit's gone bad, and what to look for in critiques we only just left before the next panel started throwing rocks at as.

I had a wonderful time at Ravencon, per usual, and want to thank all of the con com, the guests, and the attendees.

Thank you.

Just after the last update i had my third event of the day. A well moderated, and actively engaged assembly of panelists that had me blithering along while; L Jagi Lamplighter, John C Wright, Allen Wold, fired off insightful answers to Peter Prellwitz deftly asked question. This was fun, and like most good panels we could have easily and entertainingly done another hour without noticing.

I then went out to lunch with the Chuck Gannon and we talked about all things large and small over some delightful Vietnamese food from a little place called "Vietnam One" just down the street from the hotel

Later, i got to what I expect to be the only let down of the weekend, the hotel 'restaurant'. I think it must actually be something of a safe employment place for the mentally disabled as it took me forty minutes to get my burger the first time, and then another fifteen to get it the second time since it came out very, very, wrong.

After that I got to the panel on sub genres, Steve White, Julie Cochrane, Charles Gannon, and Jason Cordova were entertaining as hell and even stayed on topic.

I have no idea if half of the people i know in the area are here. At this time of the day I only know that I'm here because my name tag said so. There seem to be less people people here than last year, and it also seems slightly better organized, both are acceptable. The Con Suite and the Green Room are in adequate spaces. And i shall be a good dooby and donate blood in a couple hours. I spent most of last evening catching up with Mr Shirt, Sara Harvey, Wombat and a couple others who's names will come to me about three minutes after i post this message. Today is all schmoozing for me as the only panel i'd considered crashing is at the same time I go to feed the vampires. It appears that the amazing Shadesong is here somewhere, I may even have almost seen her at breakfast this morning. As i didn't have my contacts in and it was before eight am, theres just no telling.

More later
