Writers and wrongers...

Sunday I got to spend a couple hours with a great writers group in Revere Mass at the invitation of one of the members who I'd met at Arisia. We mostly spent the day discussing trends, basic info on the business and what some of the challenges for a new writer are. I had a good deal of fun and I think I only scarred one of the people present.

Spoilers for Indiana Jones below the cut

WTF!!! When did the Indiana Jones series turn into a Skiffy/conspiracy theory wankfest? Area 51, interdimensional travel, Soviet block supernatural 'researchers' not to mention Indy as a goobermint spy? Overall I thought it was a good movie, and I wonder if anyone else picked up on the potential setup for Mutt to take over the series or get a spinoff?

Overall, Sunday was a good day and if any other writers groups in the area are interested in having me drop by for a couple hours my contact info is on my website.

I thought they might be setting up for a new series, (which in my opinion would not be a good thing, I'd rather they let it rest), but I also thought the ending may have quashed that. I suspect that having Indy come back in a grab the fedora was Spielberg or Lucas' way of saying that there wouldn't be a spin-off. Off course I could be wrong, or that could change.

Way it looked to me, Indy's grabbing the fedora back was a way of saying, 'not quite yet, kid.' I wouldn't be too surprised if there were a couple more Indy flicks in the works along these lines. The timeframe is a different era in recent history as well-- the first three being pre-WWII, this new one during a colder war where rather... ugly things were done by either side.

Being the nasty, low minded and suspicious japester i wonder if they weren't A) building in plausible deniability or b) just flying by the seat of their pants.

Indiana Jones has always been woo-woo.

The Arc of the Covenant and the Mystic Nazis, then the Holy Grail and I dunno what the He** they did in India.

They definitely lost the *Christian* Weirdness in this one, and as my husband says, the Nazi's are better bad guys than the KGB.

On the other hand, if they recovered a crystal skull in Area 51, shouldn't they have had one too many at the end?

Yeah, yeah, nit picking.

As for the kid and the hat, has Hollywood finally realized we want a gooey emotional personal relationship along with our over-the-top action sequences?
